MOGADISHU, December 20, 2025 (Somalia Tribune) –Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, said his administration is ready to listen to views and decisions from the ongoing Kismayo Conference, organized by opposition leaders, “provided they adhere to Somalia’s governance system and constitution.”

Speaking during the 82nd anniversary of the Somali Police Force in Mogadishu, the president stressed that “political debates must be constructive and strengthen state institutions.” He cited a previous engagement with a rescue platform as an example of successful dialogue.

President Hassan Sheikh emphasized that “anything that is disputed can be discussed and listened to, but proper politics takes place within the framework of state institutions.”

He urged officials attending the Kismayo Conference to channel their political views through formal state institutions, such as Parliament and the National Consultative Council, rather than outside official governance structures.

The Kismayo Conference, convened in Jubaland State, brings together opposition politicians and leaders to discuss Somalia’s political direction, electoral processes, and future governance.
