MOGADISHU, December 21, 2025 (Somalia Tribune) – The leadership of Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) convened a major preparatory meeting with operational staff managing polling stations for the upcoming local elections.

Chairman Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, alongside Deputy Chairman Sadiq Abshir Garad, addressed the workforce at the commission’s headquarters, outlining critical procedures and ethical standards for the December 25 vote.

Chairman Hassan emphasized the responsibility on election workers to act with integrity, serve the public transparently, and ensure every citizen can cast their ballot fairly.

A large number of election officials and volunteers attended, many wearing high-visibility vests to signal readiness for deployment. Deputy Chairman Garad reinforced the commission’s message of diligence and neutrality as Somalia approaches this democratic milestone.

The briefing represents one of the final operational steps before residents of Mogadishu participate in a historic one-person, one-vote election, marking a significant leap forward for local governance and citizen participation.
