MOGADISHU, December 17, 2025 (Somalia Tribune) – The Somali government has confirmed a delay in receiving its annual budget support from Turkey, one of Somalia’s key development and security partners, as the year approaches its end.
Finance Minister Bihi Iman Egeh told local media that Turkey has not yet disbursed the expected $30 million in budget support for this year, despite having provided the assistance consistently in previous years.
“Turkey has been providing budget support regularly in past years,” the minister said. “This year’s support, amounting to $30 million, has been delayed and was not paid on time as usual.”
The minister noted that Somalia has relied largely on budgetary assistance from other international partners this year, including the European Union, the United Nations, and several friendly countries.
The delay has raised questions over the reasons behind Turkey’s late disbursement, given its longstanding role as one of Somalia’s most significant partners in development, security, and humanitarian assistance.
The remarks come as Somalia’s federal budget, valued at more than $1 billion, remains pending parliamentary approval, placing additional pressure on an already strained fiscal environment.
Somalia continues to face serious financial challenges affecting both federal and regional administrations, highlighting the country’s heavy dependence on external budget support to sustain government operations.
