MOGADISHU, December 19, 2025 (Somalia Tribune) – Somalia’s Cabinet held its weekly meeting on Thursday, focusing on preparations for the upcoming municipal elections in Mogadishu, scheduled later this month.
The Interior, Federalism, and Reconciliation Ministry presented a briefing on election preparations, including security arrangements at polling stations and the readiness of citizens to cast their votes.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre praised ministers for engaging with the public, highlighting the importance of government-citizen cooperation and active participation in election campaigns.
During the session, the Cabinet approved several important laws and regulations:
Central Bank of Somalia Law Amendments: Strengthening financial oversight and transparency.
National Defence Bill: Enhancing capacity and responsibilities of security agencies.
Children’s Rights Bill & Family Law Bill: Protecting children’s rights and supporting families, developed with input from religious scholars.
National Education Development Fund (NEDF) Policy & Regulations: Improving education quality and providing student funding across Somalia.
The Cabinet emphasized that these measures aim to strengthen governance, improve public services, and ensure inclusive legal frameworks across the country.
