MOGADISHU, December 23, 2025 (Somalia Tribune) – The Somali National Army (SNA), working in coordination with the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and local residents, has carried out a planned security operation targeting Al-Shabaab in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region.
The operation was led by Major General Saahid Jama Farah, First Division Commander of the Gorgor Commandos, and focused on the areas of Galka Salimow, Diira-fuul, Qodqodka, and Dooxa. Officials confirmed that government forces fully secured the targeted locations.
During the operation, Somali troops cleared roads of explosive devices planted by Al-Shabaab to harm civilians and disrupt movement. Security forces also destroyed several militant hideouts and bases used by the group to intimidate and terrorize local communities.
Authorities said the operation is part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts aimed at strengthening stability in Lower Shabelle and improving security conditions for civilians.
Officials added that restoring safety in the region will allow local residents and businesses to operate freely without fear of militant attacks, as Somali forces continue operations to dismantle Al-Shabaab networks.
