MOGADISHU, December 23, 2025 (Somalia Tribune) – Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has warned that Somalia’s security, political, economic, and social conditions are deteriorating, calling for national dialogue and unity to prevent further instability.
In a statement issued on Monday, Farmaajo said the country is facing serious security challenges, accusing the current government of failing to effectively counter the threat posed by terrorist groups. He warned that fragmentation within the Somali National Army has weakened the country’s defense capabilities.
Farmaajo also raised concerns over the resurgence of clan-based armed conflicts in several regions, describing the situation as a major setback to peace and national stability.
On the political front, the former president said Somalia’s governance framework has deviated from the constitutional path, stressing that major political decisions must be based on broad national consensus. He cautioned that authoritarian political practices could deepen divisions and undermine ongoing state-building efforts.
Addressing the economy, Farmaajo pointed to rising inflation and growing public mistrust, urging the government to protect vulnerable communities affected by drought and recurring humanitarian crises.
He called on the federal government, federal member states, traditional elders, civil society, and citizens to work together to safeguard national security, constitutional order, and political stability. Farmaajo also urged renewed efforts to strengthen the fight against terrorism and to pursue inclusive political reconciliation through dialogue and broad-based participation.
