CAIRO, December 22, 2025 (Somalia Tribune) – Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, in Cairo on Saturday on the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Somalia and Egypt, with discussions centered on expanding cooperation in economic development, investment, security, and regional stability. Both ministers emphasized the importance of practical partnerships that support long-term stability and sustainable development.
Minister Abdisalam welcomed Egypt’s continued support for Somalia and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Cairo, particularly in diplomacy, security, and institutional capacity-building. He stressed the importance of joint regional efforts to promote lasting peace and stability.
Dr. Abdel Atty highlighted the positive trajectory of Egyptian–Somali relations and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation. He noted that the relocation of the Egyptian Embassy headquarters to Mogadishu is expected to enhance diplomatic engagement and coordination between the two countries.
The ministers also discussed regional security developments, with Egypt renewing its support for Somalia’s stability and the wider Horn of Africa region. They emphasized the need for sustained international funding for the African Union mission in Somalia (OSSOM) to ensure its effectiveness.
Both sides underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation to combat terrorism and violent extremism, calling for stronger regional and international coordination to address threats to peace and security.
