Somali President Hassan Sheikh Meets Ethiopia’s Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa

ADDIS ABABA Ababa, December 19, 2025 (Somalia Tribune) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Addis Ababa on Friday for a one-day working visit, where he held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

According to a statement from the Somali Presidency, the discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas including security, political engagement, trade, and broader regional affairs.

The two leaders held in-depth talks on the security situation in the Horn of Africa, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts to promote peace and long-term stability across the region. Both sides highlighted the role Somalia and Ethiopia can jointly play in addressing shared security challenges.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation based on mutual respect, good neighborliness, and the protection of each country’s sovereignty. They noted that genuine partnership remains essential for sustainable development and lasting political stability.

The visit comes amid ongoing political consultations in Somalia, as opposition leaders meet in Kismayo alongside Jubbaland and Puntland administrations to discuss national political issues and the future direction of Somalia’s state-building and governance process.
